SAMBAR POWDER RECIPES

 

SAMBAR RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

  • Vegetables - Carrot, Beans, Mooli, Knhoi Khol, Peas, Aloo (Etc. Whatever you like)
  • 1/2 Cup Boiled Toor Dal
  • 2-3 Tbsp Rasa & Co. Sambar Powder
  • 2 Tsp Tamarind Paste or a Small Ball of Tamarind (Soaked in Hot Water)
  • Salt
  • Curry Leaves 5-7 (Optional)
  • 1/2 Tsp Turmeric

For The Tempering:

  • 1 Tsp Ghee
  • 1/2 Tsp Mustard Seeds
  • Hing

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Pressure cook the toor dal.
  • Boil the vegetables in a deep pan.
  • When it’s cooked halfway, add the tamarind water, curry leaves and rasa & co. sambar powder and let it boil.
  • Mash and add the toor dal and the rest of the sambar ingredients.
  • Add the tadka when the right flavour of the sambar is achieved.
Tempering:
  • Take a small pan and add the ghee to it. Add the mustard seeds and let it splatter a little.
  • Add the hing and pour this tempering into the sambar.

Sambar with shredded coconut:

Same as the regular sambar, only at the end, grind fresh coconut with the rasa & co. sambar powder and add it to the veggies and boil.

 

BRINJAL/BEANS PALYA WITH SAMBAR POWDER

INGREDIENTS

  • 3-4 Long Green/Purple Brinjal (Cut Into Pieces Bigger Than A Julienned Size) Or 1/2 Kg Beans
  • 1 1/2 - 2 Tbsp Rasa & Co. Sambar Powder (A Desired Spice Level)
  • Tamarind Water
  • Salt
  • Curry Leaves

For The Tempering:

  • 1 Tsp Ghee
  • 1/2 Tsp Mustard Seeds

INSTRUCTIONS

  • In a pan heat oil and make a tadka with mustard seeds, turmeric powder, curry leaves, and red chili.
  • Add the brinjal or beans and saute for a minute.
  • Add a little tamarind water and cook for a couple of minutes covered.
  • Add the rasa & co. sambar powder and cook for another 5 minutes.
Serve with hot rice and ghee! Or can be eaten with roti's.
